At Home with Sophie Garland

In the latest instalment of their Homestory series, Westwing visits the home of interior designer Sophie Garland. Talking us through how colour shapes our mood, we dive deeper into her creative design process and see how it comes to life throughout her own beautifully curated space.

Sophie Garland is a London-based interior designer known for her joyful, characterful approach to interiors. In collaboration with Westwing, Sophie carefully selected pieces from the collection that seamlessly complement her signature aesthetic, thoughtfully integrating them throughout her family home alongside vintage finds, treasured heirlooms and bespoke elements. The result is a space that feels effortlessly cohesive, celebrating timeless design, individuality and considered living.

Living in Notting Hill with her husband Freddie, founder of Freddie's Flowers, and their two children, her home is a reflection of her layered, expressive and inviting style. Rooted in timeless British design, the space feels as abundant and uplifting as a summer bouquet, filled with colour, warmth and personality.

Celebrating homes that feel deeply personal is central to Westwing's philosophy, with its expert interior design service helping clients translate their own vision into thoughtfully curated spaces.

At the heart of the home, the open-plan kitchen, dining and living spaces have been designed to bring the Garland family together. A striking green marble island anchors the kitchen, while layered textures, collected artwork and colourful furnishings create a relaxed setting for everyday entertaining and the joyful chaos of family life. In the living room, rich tones, vintage pieces and cosy reading corners encourage conversation, creativity and comfort, while every carefully considered detail reflects Sophie's belief that interiors should be lived in, evolving naturally with the people who call them home. It is a space that feels equally suited to quiet mornings, lively gatherings and everything in between.

"I grew up surrounded by colour, and this is definitely something I've continued in my work as an interior designer, but also in my home.

Our house is obviously filled with so many different colours, which to us is really important because it means the spaces feel very energetic, but also a really creative place for the kids to grow up into". -
Sophie
"Green plays an important role in the house, and it's so nice because it gives the feeling of bringing the outside in. It is also a colour that signifies growth to us as a family." - Sophie

Throughout the home, colour is used intentionally to shape the mood of each space. Vibrant social areas give way to calming bedrooms, where soft blues and gentle greens create peaceful retreats, while botanical wallpaper, natural materials and warm terracotta tones continue the home's connection to nature. Every room has its own distinct personality, yet together they form a cohesive story, united by thoughtful craftsmanship, meaningful objects and a palette inspired by the natural world.

This softer approach comes to life in the principal bedroom, where gentle blues and greens create a peaceful sanctuary away from the energy of the ground floor. The adjoining bathroom continues the home's connection to nature, pairing botanical prints with warm earthy tones, natural materials and fresh flowers to create a restorative space that feels both timeless and inviting. Throughout these quieter rooms, subtle layers of texture and carefully chosen pieces encourage moments of pause, reflecting Sophie's belief that beautiful interiors should feel as restorative as they are visually inspiring.

Flowers are an inseparable part of this home. Tulips in the hallway, purple arrangements in the
kids room and even a set of Lego ® sunflowers. Appearing throughout every corner of the home, they act as more than decorative finishing touches; they are an integral part of the family's daily life. Together with mediterranean-inspired ceramics, collected objects and natural materials, they create interiors that feel deeply personal and effortlessly alive.

"We've always incorporated flowers into our home, introducing lots of different varieties and colours. They really make a huge impact and totally change the feeling and mood"
Freddie

Upstairs, the children's rooms are playful and full of imagination, balancing cheerful colours with spaces designed to feel calm and comforting. Throughout the home, Sophie's instinctive approach to colour, pattern and collected pieces creates interiors that feel joyful, lived-in and unmistakably her own - a family home designed not just to be admired, but to be enjoyed every day.

"Being our first family home, we wanted it to be more than just a beautiful space - we wanted somewhere our family could grow together." - Freddie
